Prepping For Wedding Photos? 3 Ways To Preserve Your Gorgeous Smile After Teeth Whitening

Dentist Blog

Planning a wedding not only involves picking the perfect venue, but it also means paying extra attention to your appearance in the next couple months. Naturally, getting to marry such an amazing person gives you a lot to smile about, and you can look forward to flashing those pearly whites to everyone you meet as you attend events such as your rehearsal dinner and the pre-wedding photo shoot. Since you will enjoy looking at those pictures forever, it is important to do everything you can to preserve the whitening effects of your recent smile makeover.

Use the Right Toothpaste

Today, you can find tons of toothpaste lining the grocery store shelves that tout whitening power. However, you should understand that many of these toothpastes contain abrasives that can destroy your tooth enamel if they are not used properly. Make sure to talk to your dentist about which toothpaste is best for you to use after your teeth whitening procedure so that you can avoid doing permanent damage that reveals the yellow dentin underneath your enamel.

Use Caution Stain-Causing Foods

While you may already know that smoking and too much coffee ruin your teeth, you may still be eating common stain-causing foods in an effort to boost your health. For example, berries contain pigments that can stain your tooth enamel, and blueberries are one of the biggest stain-causing foods. In the weeks leading up to your wedding, you may need to limit the amount of stain-causing foods that you consume. However, don't worry if you can't resist a few blueberries. Just rinse your mouth with water, and brush your teeth as soon as you can. If you do develop stains, then visit your dentist for a cleaning.

Sip Drinks Through a Straw

It is also important to know that many drinks lead to yellow teeth, but there are things that you can do if you still want to enjoy a soda or cup of coffee between now and your wedding. Simply use a straw to help push the liquid past your teeth and in the direction of your throat. Then, always follow up with a drink of water to rinse any leftover residue once you are finished with your beverage. This reduces the amount of time that stain-causing liquids have to deposit pigments on your teeth.

It is important for you to feel confident on your wedding day, and knowing that your teeth are as bright as your future will have you ready to flash those pearly whites. While having your teeth whitened is the first step toward loving those final photographs, you can also continue to do your part to make the effects last long after you say your vows.
