Advantages Of Having Your Teeth Aligned

Dentist Blog

There are many types of braces that are available for people with crooked teeth. Traditional metal braces, which are still a popular option, offer enough aligning force to help straighten the most misaligned teeth. Nevertheless, many people desire more discreet alignment applications, such as ceramic braces, clear aligners, and lingual braces.

Ceramic braces are applied in the same manner as metal braces. In addition, they are comprised of the same components. However, the brackets are made of ceramic instead of metal.

Clear aligners use a series of plastic mouth trays to straighten the teeth. However, they are generally used to align teeth that are only moderately crooked.

Lingual braces are made of metal. However, they are discreet because of their positioning in the mouth. Unlike traditional braces, lingual braces are applied to the side of the teeth that is next to the tongue.

Regardless of the orthodontic option that is selected, the advantages of an alignment correction are significant. Here are a few benefits of having your teeth straightened.

Easier Chewing

If the teeth of the top and bottom palates do not meet when the mouth is closed, it can be difficult to masticate the food thoroughly and easily. Once the alignment and bite are corrected, chewing can become much easier, and the dental patient can enjoy a wider range of foods.

Less Jaw Pain

Bite problems can result in jaw pain. Sometimes, the jaws may make a clicking sound due to the improper positioning of the jaws. Bite problems may even cause chronic issues, such as TMJ. Bite correction treatments can cause the jaws to settle into their proper placement, relieving the discomfort of the jaw joint.

Less Dental Decay

Tooth decay results from the tooth enamel's exposure to acid that is produced by the bacteria of the mouth. Plaque is created as food particles and oral bacteria mix. If the plaque is not thoroughly cleaned from the mouth, the bacteria thrive, and more decay-causing acid is produced.

Regular brushing and flossing can help reduce the amount of plaque on the teeth and consequently the amount of decay. However, when the teeth are misaligned or crowded, brushing and flossing can be difficult and inefficient. As a result, the teeth may not be cleaned sufficiently to avoid decay. Correcting a dental misalignment can make the surfaces of the teeth more accessible for cleaning.

I want to help others who are also thinking about dentures and you can learn a lot about them when you read my blog.
