3 Tips To Help You Have A Healthy And Attractive Mouth

Dentist Articles

The appearance of your teeth and gums can either help or harm your overall appearance, as your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. The alignment, coloring, and overall health of your teeth and the condition of your gums can all contribute to your mouth's appearance, in addition to your body's health. Here are some tips to improve the look and health of your teeth and gums.

Straighten Crooked Teeth

With constant and gentle pressure, you can cause your crooked teeth to move into a straight alignment, and there are several ways you can accomplish this. First, you can see your orthodontist for an assessment and plan to slowly straighten them over time. Your orthodontist may need to remove a few teeth if you suffer from overcrowding, and if your mouth is not wide enough, your orthodontist can use a palate expander to slowly widen the your mouth and create space for a straight row of teeth.

Your orthodontist will attach braces onto your teeth and align them with wires to complete the straightening process. You can choose to get metal or clear braces on the front of your teeth, and even braces attached onto the backs of your teeth so that they are barely noticeable when you talk and smile.

Another method to straighten your teeth is to use of clear aligners that fit over your teeth. Progressively, the set of liners fit to move your teeth into a straight position, and you change the liners over a specific time. Your orthodontist can help you with this process, or you can even order them through the mail. With ordering clear liners through the mail, is necessary for you to take a mold of your teeth on your own at home, mail them back, then wait for the required tooth straightening liners to arrive and follow the directions.

Remove Teeth Stains

There are many ways you can whiten your teeth at home with some of the products you already have in your kitchen. First, in a small bowl, combine several teaspoons of baking soda with water and mix it together until it creates a paste consistency. With a paper towel, wipe any saliva from your teeth, which can prevent the paste from adhering, and use your toothbrush to apply the paste onto your teeth. Allow the paste to remain on your teeth for up to three minutes to whiten your teeth. Many store-brand toothpastes contain baking soda to cause the same tooth-whitening effect, but you can do it at home on your own.

Another method to whiten your teeth is oil pulling. Each day before you brush your teeth, eat, or drink anything, place one to two teaspoons of coconut oil into your mouth. The oil will melt immediately, and you can begin to swish it around inside your mouth and between your teeth. Continue this process for 10–15 minutes, then spit the oil into the trash, rinse your mouth with water, and brush your teeth, as usual. Besides whitening your teeth, the oil pulling will remove plaque and bad bacteria from your teeth.

Improve Your Gum and Teeth Health

Taking care of your oral health is a process that requires you to take action every day by brushing and flossing. It is recommended to brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Make sure that you don't brush too aggressively, as this can wear down the enamel of your teeth. Once the enamel is gone from the surface of your teeth, it won't grow back. Any areas without enamel will become sensitive to hot and cold foods and drinks.

The American Dental Association also recommends that you floss your teeth at least once a day to remove food particles and bacteria from between your teeth. Brushing with a toothbrush will remove plaque from the surface of your teeth, but the spaces between your teeth will require the use of dental floss. Flossing and brushing your teeth regularly will actually strengthen your gum tissue and improve the blood flow to your gums, improving the condition of their health.

Use these tips to help you improve the health and look of your teeth and gums.

I want to help others who are also thinking about dentures and you can learn a lot about them when you read my blog.
